Polymarket's Schrödinger Bet

Schrödinger posited that a cat in a box is both alive and dead until observed.

In 2020, 22-year-old Shayne Coplan built Polymarket in a Lower East Side apartment. In 2024, the FBI raided his SoHo apartment. No charges were filed. In 2025, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) announced a $2 billion investment in Polymarket—with $1 billion upfront. On March 27, 2026, ICE wired a further $600 million—with more to come. Coplan, at age 27, joined the ranks of young, self-made billionaires.  ICE secured exclusive rights to distribute Polymarket’s event-driven data globally.

Fund managers, traders, and risk officers monitoring earnings reports and bond yields now get the odds of Taylor Swift canceling a tour date, the exact day LeBron James might retire, and whether Meta will surprise-launch its next AI product. Institutional data is backward-looking. Polymarket has already priced it. ICE calls this alpha.
